![]() The 58/15 LT “S” pickups deliver clarity and balance that sound big and musical in a hollowbody platform.īoasting an LR Baggs/PRS Piezo system, the SE Hollowbody II Piezo provides musicians with the versatility of wielding both acoustic and electric tones in one instrument. Constructed with a maple back and top with mahogany sides, the SE Hollowbody II Piezo offers a light shimmer and snap in an attractive package. I'll have to think about how to handle that.īesides these minor things I really, really love this guitar and am really happy with the purchase. The SE Hollowbody II Piezo combines the balanced, clear, resonant tone of a hollowbody instrument with the power and stability of a solid-body electric guitar. I can probably stuff some foam of some kind inside to keep it from vibrating but I don't want to hinder the vibrations of the top or back in the process. It's just something that bugs the OCD part of me and I'm going to have to find a solution for it some time. You don't hear this when it's amplified, it's really only when playing unplugged which I won't be doing all the time anyway. It interferes with what is an otherwise great sounding acoustical resonance. My biggest gripe, and it's really a minor one, is that when playing it acoustically, there sometimes is a gnarly un-musical vibration coming from the battery compartment door. ![]() Not a real big deal, but a little onboard EQ for the Piezos might have been useful. There is no tone control for the Piezos. ![]() That would have been handy but I will use other methods of switching between the 2 voices. My Godin's always had this as do the non "SE" versions of this guitar. They didn't include a toggle switch to switch between the piezo & mag outputs.I think for the money, it's a really good value. Not to mention the fact that it is gorgeous! It is a really fine looking guitar and there are no factory blemishes or obvious shortcuts taken in quality and workmanship! It feels and plays really great, Intonates well, and it has a real good resonant sound acoustically that definitely comes across amplified too. The neck and fretwork is great, no issues there. With the right IR the acoustic voice sounds even better! The electric "voice" from the humbuckers is also good - on par with most LP type guitars but the hollow body construction gives it a 335ish tone & vibe that is very nice. With the right amplification chain it really sounds great and mimics a real acoustic pretty well. For me the piezo output was important and one of the main reasons I chose this model, and it does not disappoint! I need to cover electric & acoustic parts and I have used a number of "Hybrid" type guitars: Several Godins with piezo/synth outputs, a Taylor T5, Several Variax's. Outside of a couple of nitpicky minor complaints I have nothing but positive things to say about it. I never played the non SE version so I can't compare the two but I am really loving this guitar so far. I recently received a PRS Hollowbody II Piezo I had on order from Sweetwater. I hope to try another one someday just to see if it would really be as good as folks report. I've owned and played SEs, S2s, CEs, and Cores, and every single one was good to fantastic. (Don't judge - I gave the store owner a sweetheart deal on it in partial trade.) BTW the pickups were ho-hum and I didn't feel like they match each other well at all, unlike say the SE245. My intention was to swap the PUPs with something boutique but I just completely aborted that whole notion and traded the guitar in locally for something completely different. Somehow it seemed the guitar was attentuating itself it was kind of amazing in an awful sort of way. Ever experienced a dead-spot on a guitar? This was like that from the nut all the way up. All up and down the fretboard the guitar just swallowed up notes, and no amount of pickup adjustment, EQ, etc., made a lick of difference. ![]() And plugged in, it sounded as dead as any guitar I've EVER owned. It was lightweight of course, had a wonderful setup, and played great. I had an SE Standard Hollowbody for about a month. I am a huge PRS nut and have owned at least one version of most of their lineup (but not exotics like PS / WL / etc.) so my expectations were high even knowing this was an SE. The overwhelming consensus is that these are terrific.
